02 / Biography
First, a perspective. Then, a story.
Giovanni Berardi is a director and screenwriter born in L’Aquila, Italy, in 1994.
Passionate about cinema since childhood, he began by writing for blogs and online magazines. A self-taught filmmaker, he made his debut with About You before exploring genre cinema with Il Profumo dell’Abisso and Isolesque, a surreal, existential horror film created during lockdown.
He studied at IFA – Scuola di Cinema in Pescara, graduating in Cinema in 2023 and completing a Master’s in Film Directing in 2024. There he developed Sacro | Urbano, co-directed with Simone Paggetti, and D(e)AD.
He is president and co-founder of filmAQuì, a cultural association promoting cinema and the L’Aquila region through film production, screenings and talks. Alongside directing, he has worked as an assistant director, production assistant and tutor in film education projects.
